Guar Gum (food grade)CAS#9000-30-0
Renewable origin – sourced from guar beans, a crop cultivated primarily in dry regions as a renewable resource.
Adjustable hydration – disperses in water to form a mucilage with changeable viscosity, fitting diverse applications.
Physically reliable – remains stable under routine conditions, possesses a neutral pH (5.0–7.0), and carries negligible toxicity.
Full‑bean utilization – consumes the whole bean in production; leftover protein‑rich material is redirected into animal feed, enhancing sustainability.
Guar gum is a naturally occurring plant-based polysaccharide that can be derived either from the pods of the carob tree or from guar beans. The carob tree is a perennial shrub found mainly along the coasts of the Mediterranean region. In contrast, guar beans come from annual leguminous plants grown largely in dry areas like India, Pakistan, and the US state of Texas, where large swings in day-to-night temperatures along with sufficient rainfall favor their growth. At present, the guar gum listed on Chemicalbook is sourced mostly from guar beans.
Mature guar beans are initially subjected to hull removal before being delivered to milling operations. Through a thermochemical process applied at that stage, the beans are separated into endosperm flakes, germs, and husks. The germs, containing high levels of protein, are commonly redirected into livestock feed. As for the endosperm flakes, they are sent to a grinding facility where additional processing converts them into guar gum.
