Product Details

Glycidyl Methacrylate (GMA) is a transparent, colorless liquid with a distinct ester-like, fruity odor. Its molecule features a polymerizable methacrylate group at one end and a highly reactive epoxy group at the other, providing dual functionality for versatile chemical reactions. GMA is slightly miscible with water but readily soluble in most organic solvents. It exhibits low volatility, and its vapor is denser than air. This compound copolymerizes easily with various functional groups, including phenols, acids, amines, and ketones. The presence of the epoxy group significantly enhances key properties such as durability, mechanical strength, optical clarity, and adhesion in final products.

Glycidyl methacrylate (GMA) is a versatile epoxy-functional monomer primarily used in the synthesis of epoxy resins. It enables the epoxy functionalization of polyolefins and other acrylate resins. Common applications of GMA include the production of polymer coatings, finishes, adhesives, plastics, and elastomers. Biocompatible hydrogels have also been developed through the use of glycidyl methacrylate dextran.Furthermore, studies have reported the use of GMA in combination with trimethylolpropane trimethacrylate for the in situ preparation of macroporous sorbent materials. Another significant application involves the grafting of GMA onto polypropylene to improve its surface characteristics and functionality.
